QUITO, ECUADOR

|
The pyramids of Cochasqui are high in the Andes Mountains, northeast of the City of Quito.
|
Fifteen pyramids and twenty-one tombs are sited on the eighty-four hectares that comprise the Cochasqui complex. All the structures are of pre-Incan construction.
The pyramids hold great, undiscovered knowledge. This is their mystery.
Cochasqui was a strategic military site for the Quitus Cara tribe. Here, the Quitus Cara successfully resisted invasion by the Incas of Peru.
Stories that have been passed down through generations tell of a notable figure in that conflict. Quilago, a white woman, led the fight against the Incas. She was successful because she had the blessings of the Shamans. Today, a museum is named in her honor - Quilago - The White Warrior Woman.
The pyramids of Cochasqui had great religious significance. Ceremonies and sacrifices to the Gods occurred here over many centuries.

Long ago,
the Cochasqui complex also served
as an astrological observatory.
Cochasqui is a sacred site where
many Shamans have lived throughout the years. Great Shamans and Healers from many past generations are buried here.
The pyramids are a powerful point of energy.
|
Every Summer Solstice, Shamans from different indigenous cultures of Ecuador - including the Shuar of the Amazon, the Otavalians, Sachilas, and Quechuas - as well as Shamans from other countries, travel to the pyramids of Cochasqui to celebrate Wilka Kuti, The Return of the Sun, with the Luna family. As many as 10,000 people gather with them to heal and pray for world peace on June 20 and 21 every year. The roots of the Cochasqui Wilka Kuti ceremony are more ancient than the pyramids.
The honorable provincial council of Pichincha, Ecuador sponsors this important annual event.
The Luna family invites everyone to visit the sacred, ancestral site of Cochasqui.
